Serving both communities of Cramerton and Gastonia, together they operate an award winning water and wastewater system and is ISO 14001 certified, the only municipality recognized as an Environmental Steward by the State of North Carolina.
Two Rivers Utilities creates a new regional utility, the first of its kind in the county. The new utility consolidates the two cities’ water and wastewater utility systems. The merger also creates an identity to represent this consolidated water and wastewater system that is the model for future utility consolidation in Gaston County.
Two Rivers Utilities proudly began serving the community July 1, 2011.
This partnership is a win-win opportunity for both Cramerton and Gastonia.  Two Rivers Utilities offers the same rates to both communities.  For Cramerton residents, this means instant rate relief with a drop on average of more than 20% depending on usage.
While the City of Gastonia will be the system owner and service provider, it was important to both cities to create a new identity that reflects the partnership of both cities as well as acknowledge the future possibilities of addition partners with the regional utility system.  The new name, Two Rivers Utility, or TRU, was selected because it represents the regional approach, scope, and intent of the partnership while acknowledging the region’s two important water resources, the South Fork and Catawba Rivers.
